This Long Course State Championships saw a total of 18 individual swimmers take part, with an additional 2 swimmers coming on board for relay day, and 6 swimmers taking part in the Junior Participation Meet.
Both relay teams did themselves proud, and many PBs were achieved by our junior swimmers. Well done!
Clovercrest had a PB rate of 78% over the meet, based on entry times, with the following swimmers achieving 100% PB rates over the week:- Bree, Donovan. Sophie, Ethan, Holly, Adele, Jackson, and Summer. From the 18 swimmers who swam in the heats, 8 (Olivia, Matthew, Hannah, Amber, Stephanie, Isabella, Adele and Jackson) qualified for at least one final. We won a total of 18 medals, including 2 multiclass relay medals for Jasmin; Jasmin (1 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze), Matthew (1 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze), Olivia (2 silver, 1 bronze), and Isabella (1 bronze). Jasmin also broke several multi class age group records too- an amazing achievement! Olivia swam the swim of her life in the 200m freestyle to achieve the 13 year old girl's national time. It is just a shame she can't use it, as she is still only just 12. Congrats Olivia on this amazing result.
All of our finalists PBd on their morning heat times some time over their swims, and special mention goes to those who swam in the record breaking temperatures to do so well in incredibly trying conditions!
Many thanks our coaches Jill and Pete for all the effort and hard work put in over the week, to Caitlin for her coaching on relay day, and also to the parents who not only drove their children all week, sometimes twice a day, and volunteered their time as team managers and on pool deck as officials.
Our team, with over half of our members swimming at states finished 19th in the team scores, and 12th SA team. Half our competing swimmers swam in finals- quite an achievement from our small club!
All swimmers are to be commended for their exemplary conduct over the entire meet, you swam your best, you cheered on your team mates, and every one of you were a joy to watch. Congratulations to everyone.
Here’s hoping for cooler weather this time next year!
